Front Range Ecological Solutions is a landscaping business focused on self-sustainable land management, land production, and ecosystem restoration. Now how do we define self-sustainability? Self-sustainability in a landscape is relying on natural forces like sun, wind water and decay, to help guide the landscape so human maintenance is minimized and ecology is maximized. Being able to harvest food medicine or material from your land is what we call land production and how we meet these 2 goals is relying on ecosystem restoration. An ecosystem that matches the macro to micro climate is an ecosystem that will thrive and provide for years to come.

My name is Roman Forsythe Clay, the owner and operator of FRES llc. Living and growing up in humid western Pennsylvania, I had painted a picture of how landscapes “should be”. For example seeing green unirrigated fields and small blue spruces looked pretty, correct, everything us as landscapers should be striving towards…right? But as I grew up I wondered why were all the blue spruces small or midsized but rather waspy? Why was any organic waste from a property treated as garbage? Why can we get fresh food from the farm down the road but only accumulate leaves and grass clippings from our property? Ornamental landscaping, (a landscape used only for aesthetic appeal) has taken over and that's why using your land for production went out of style and these blue spruces were used only for decoration, not for their ecological importance let alone letting them grow to full size. The seemingly countless ecosystems of our vast country used to be a unbound food source for the people that inhabited this land for thousands of years. Even closer in the past you have the victory gardens of the world wars providing around 40% of the entire nations fruit and veggie supply, not to mention the use of domesticated animals as well. With economic instability that rivals the great depression, the time is now to resurrect the victory garden, and unleash the food production potential this land has to offer, starting with land stewardship, and private land production.
